Principal Engineer United States
       

We are looking for a Principal Engineer with outstanding Python, JavaScript, and data engineering skills. Candidates must have proven technical expertise, mentorship abilities, and delivery excellence to lead complex technical initiatives and drive engineering excellence within our Engineering and QA teams as we build software solutions that facilitate the capture and analytics of critical healthcare data.

As a Principal Engineer, you'll be responsible for the technical leadership, implementation, and optimization of a modern AI application leveraging LLMs. You will lead the development of Python backends with a variety of persistence stores, React browser applications for management, third party data integration, and automated testing frameworks. On a daily basis, the Principal Engineer will actively collaborate with geographically-dispersed, cross-functional teammates to solve complex technical challenges, mentor engineers, and deliver high-quality end-to-end software solutions in a timely fashion.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex technical initiatives and drive engineering excellence across the team
  • Solve the most challenging technical problems and provide technical guidance to other engineers
  • Write high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code using Python & React
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and technical design patterns
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering growth
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and drive technical decision-making
  • Create expressive, safe, and performant DSLs that structure and constrain LLM outputs, enabling safe integration with automated systems and multi-step toolchains.
  • Investigate and implement cutting-edge technologies, building proofs of concept for future initiatives
  • Drive technical innovation while maintaining focus on customer value and business impact
  • Collaborate in roadmap planning and provide technical input on new and existing functionality
  • Create technical documentation and share knowledge across the engineering organization
  • Work effectively with distributed remote teams, including pair programming and collaborative problem-solving
  • Champion engineering best practices and help build a culture of technical excellence

What you'll need:

  • Expert-level proficiency in Python with deep understanding of language features and ecosystem
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience with a track record of technical leadership
  • 5+ years of experience building complex JavaScript applications using modern frameworks (React.js, Angular, Vue, Node.js)
  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing database solutions (relational, document, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge of modern Python toolset (build tools, packaging, testing frameworks) and DevOps/Platform Engineering tooling (git, gitops, docker, kubernetes, observability suites)
  • Proven experience building and optimizing cloud microservices (AWS preferred)
  • Deep experience with enterprise-grade, Internet-facing web applications including security, RESTful Web API design, performance optimization, test automation, event-driven architectures, and cloud native solutions
  • Strong experience with Agile/Lean development methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow other engineers
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience

Salary Range: $170,000-200,000
